The Simple Rules I Use To Be Happy 👇
Most people in the world have experienced lockdown, or something close to it with restrictions in place, and I know people are finding it really hard to be positive.
And after being in lockdown for almost 5 weeks and it meant to be ending in 3 weeks (which I don't think will happen), I want to share a few things that I do every day to keep myself happy.
I'm no mental health expert, just a personal trainer but I've been through a lot of life and have managed to remain positive after being spit out of 27 years of it.
1. I wake up, have a coffee and read my gratitude list, which I will now call my 'Thank Bank'. I say what I’m grateful for like my family, friends and fiancé and the fact I have a roof over my head, food on my plate and money in my wallet. Then I ask for what I want to happen in my life and finish with quotes and scriptures that have changed my life and way of thinking.
2. I work. It’s not just that I work but I love it and ultimately, it develops me and challenges me. I think as humans, we’re made to solve problems. And if we’re not solving any, we’re problem causing them.
3. I get outside and get moving. Whether it’s a walk or a swim. Even did a run with Kiki a couple of days ago #athlete 🤣 Getting some sun, seeing some nature and moving is great for you and feels awesome.
4. I workout. Not only does this help you build muscle, lose fat and improve bone density and all that good stuff, it makes your body operate better throughout the day.
5. I study or read for at least 15-30mins per day. It’s important to keep growing and learning new things. If you’re not getting better, you’re getting worse. I really believe that.
6. I try to call my friends or family throughout the day. This has been a big one I’m still working on but now we can’t physically see people, I’ve been calling/FaceTiming people to stay in contact. We’re social creatures.
7. I’ve been sleeping 7-9 hours. From someone that used to sleep 4-6, I can’t express how amazing that feels. Slept 8 hours in fact, might be the reason my emails are empty and I'm writing my daily email at 9am!
8. I push to eat nutrient dense foods. It’s easy to Uber eats in lockdown and get slack on eating but eating healthy and nutrient dense foods such as lean meats, Greek yoghurt, fruit and veg is always a great idea.
This is what I do to look after myself.
I’m not saying you should try what I do but if you’re struggling to make your day work for you, maybe you can try using one or two of these steps to help you out.
Stay strong 💪
