How A Pair Of Shoes Change The Way I Think
I want to tell you the story of this pair of shoes.
Apart from being up there with the greatest pair of shoes I have owned, the go a bit deeper than their look.
One shoe says EMPATHY and the other says GRATITUDE.
The left shoe says EMPATHY and it just so happens to be the foot I lead with when I jump or take off.
I have been told on several occasions that I lack empathy.
I fail to understand what the person in front of me feels and use that to guide how I act or speak.
I've acknowledged that's an area in my life I need to change.
The thought of leading with EMPATHY when I take off reminds me of how I need to develop that area of my life.
The right shoe says GRATITUDE.
The right shoe just so happens to be the foot I kick a ball with, the foot I take action with.
The feeling of remembering to take action with GRATITUDE helps me acknowledge the great life I live. The great life we live.
We have food.
We have money.
We have the opportunity to live another day.
We even have the luxury of Wi-Fi to read this email on.
I don't need these reminders on my feet but the environment I create by wearing these shoes definitely make me think twice when I look down at my feet.
The same way an environment with no chocolate, cake, biscuits or candy may help for weight loss, my EMPATHY shoe helps me to be understanding.
The same way an environment with no toxic people helps me to be positive, my GRATITUDE shoe helps me to remember the good things in life.
