I've Got Shit All Over My Hands And Through My Hair
Two days ago this email came into my inbox.
It read the following:
"I want to tell you, you don’t realize how much you impact me on social media.
I used to follow a lot of influencers on Instagram and in the beginning it was fun but after a while I started feeling insecure and bad about myself and more and more insecure about my body because I didn’t have abs or as much muscle or as many followers.
I also felt like I was being a pest by writing to them.
You are one the few people I still follow and I get a little smile on my face whenever you send out an email.
It’s really great that you just care about our general well being.
I think the reason I respect you the most is because you don’t only show us the highlights in your life; you actually share the bad moments you have and how you overcome them with your positive attitude and mentality.
No matter our differences I always feel like the content you post is relatable."
The more time I have spent in the world, where health and fitness collides with social media, the more I have realised the troubles we are facing.
We try to compare our imperfect lives to perfect lives.
We never wanted a Mercedes Benz and a two story house on the water but now that we've seen it on instagram, we want it.
We never cared about being funny or interesting until we saw our best friend on TikTok with thousands of views and likes. All of a sudden we want to be interesting and over the top.
We never wanted a shredded six-pack until we saw an ad on Facebook with a smiling, athletic, Greek God promoting a Fat Burning supplement. Now that's all we can think about.
When I first started Instagram, Facebook and Youtube, I'll be honest.
I wanted to be a "fitness dude".
Big youtube following with a perfect life driving a Ferrari posting workouts and recipe ideas.
But as soon as I started working with clients face to face and expanded online, I realised just posting workouts and meal plans doesn't solve shit.
Real people face real problems.
Work stress, kids, divorce, pay cuts, politics on the sidelines of sports games with other parents, depression, loss of purpose and just trying to stay afloat in life.
Life can be shit sometimes, real shit.
I lost my mother at 12 years old, I know what shit feels like.
Deep shit.
No one can relate to a Youtube fitness douchebag flexing about how great their life is when they're going through complete shit.
So I decided to be myself.
I decided to prove that we are all facing shit but it's how we deal with the shit that counts.
Yes, I post workouts on social media.
Yes, I coach people with calories and macros to help them lose weight and build muscle.
But I'm not afraid to say when I feel terrible, invest heaps of money and lose it, feel lost in my life or make a wrong move.
REAL PEOPLE FACE REAL PROBLEMS.
I'm real and you're real.
I'm as positive as the sun but I face hard times just like my clients and every single one of my instagram followers.
To be really honest with you, I love helping people transform their body but it means nothing to me in comparison to the feeling I get when someone tells me I have:
- boosted their self esteem
- increased their levels of confidence
- helped them spend more time with their kids
- gave them the courage to open a business they were scared of launching for several years
- unlocked their inner freedom
- gave them the guts to leave their partner they should have left YEARS ago
Whether you lose 5g or 5kg with me, I'll be happy and I'll be just as stoked as you are.
But trust me when I say that it isn't just weight you will lose or muscle you will build.
It will be a new life that will unlock unlimited potential to an infinitely better you.
Even with shit all over your hands and all through your hair, it's time to make a difference in your life today.
P.s. I'm covered in shit too!
Let's tackle this shit together 💩
This shit we call 'life'.
