Yesterday, Kiki and I woke up at 4:30am to go kayaking through Sydney Harbour.

The sun was rising.

The water was warm.

The coffee was strong and orange lit the sky.

But one of the most fascinating things we saw that day was this bioluminescence algae that was washed up on the beach before we head out on the water.

The algae lights up when the water moves or when you step on the sand etc.

It's bonkas.

And the reason it's so fascinating is because we've never seen it before.

It's NEW.

New is attractive, especially when it glows in the dark 😅

And this obsession we have with the 'new' is unfortunately what trips us up when we're trying to make progress.

When you've been on a diet for 2 weeks, a new diet comes out so you change to that one because it's new.

When you've been with a personal trainer for 10 weeks and you see a new fitness app has been released on an Instagram ad, you download it and ditch your PT.

New is exciting but new can also be detrimental.

The basics aren't new, they stay forever unchanged which is why most of us find them extremely boring.

And the basics don't care what's new or what's just been released because the basics are what get results.

So keep that in mind next time a new diet, a new workout or a new app is put in front of you.

It could be the next best thing for you but it could also be the exact thing that stops your progress.

Which is why Team Brock Ashby is based on the basics.

Not new and flashy stuff that looks cool.

The stuff that really works!
