Motivation Monday: 4 Fitness Truths You Need To Hear
Hey mate,
Brock here.
I have been a huge reader since the age of 18 years old, when the quest for self employment began.
Even though I wanted to be a singer/songwriter, model and TV presenter (which never happened), I always knew that being more knowledgeable would help me get further.
I first dived into:
Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki
Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey
The Road Less Travelled by Scott Peck
No one told me to read these but these were the "self help classics" and as soon as I got into them, my brain literally exploded.
I struggled to sleep at night with the excitement my future had in store for me.
I discovered that there was a world that was bigger than small little Christchurch, New Zealand where I could be anything I wanted to be as long as I put my mind to it.
And even though I'm a failed singer/songwriter, model and TV presenter, I'm a very successful personal trainer.
And the only way I could've possibly ended up in this position, is because those 4 books gave me the confidence to pursue my passions, even though they have changed.
So I want to give you 4 pieces of advice exploded my mind when I got into fitness in hopes that they will pump you up to finally take your fitness seriously:
Random workouts get random results.
Think of trying to learn how to speak Russian on Monday. Then trying to learn on Chinese on Tuesday. The trying to learn French on Wednesday and continuing to try and learn new languages every single day.
You won't know how to speak any of the languages very well.
You'll be spinning your wheels, just like someone who does different workouts every time they step into the gym.Focusing on supplements to transform your body, is like focusing on the wheels of a car with a broken motor.
BCAA's don't get your fat loss cranking along. Creatine isn't responsible for building mountains of muscle that you will put on. Protein powder will not jack your squat up 50kg.
Principles like calorie surplus, progressive overload, calorie deficit and your NEAT levels will transform your body.
Ground your approach in evidence and what has worked for others, not what you have heard on the latest Joe Rogan or Andrew Huberman Podcast. You don't need to workout every day.
I personally got better results training five times per week, than I did seven days per week. When I trained every single day, my lower back was always sore and so were my muscles. I was never recovered and body looked 'soft'.
Taking rest is not being a pu$$y. It's being smart. You don't need to eat chicken and broccoli.
Years of my life, even as a personal trainer, were spent over restricting my diet to boiled eggs, grilled chicken and steamed broccoli. Did it work? YES. How long did it work for? NO LONGER THAN 3 DAYS.
Over restriction and under-eating is not a long term solution to fat loss.
It may work for a few days but you are bound to cave in and give in to your desires at some point.
So to avoid that, flexible dieting is the solution to losing weight at a great rate without depriving yourself of burgers.
