Does Muscle Give You Confidence?

Did muscle build confidence in me? 🤔

I was just asked this on my story questions a few days ago and I thought this needed a bit more attention…

Does muscle give one confidence?

I understood this when I met some of the best bodies (competitive body builders) with the biggest insecurities and even within myself as I built muscle as a young teen.

It changed my outer shell but nothing within it.

I looked different, more confident, but inside I was the same.

It can contribute to your confidence, which it has to mine, but my confidence has come from stepping out of my comfort zone and failing many, many times and getting back up again.

Not from what you see in the mirror.

There's a difference between being proud of how you look vs being confident because confidence goes deeper than a 6 pack.

Learning from mistakes, putting myself out there again, giving it my best shot and repeating.

Moving to a new city in 2016, building a face to face personal training business from 0 sessions per week to over 60 sessions per week.

Going from being broke in 2020 to buying our own property in 2021.

This is what built my confidence.

Trying, failing, trying, failing.

Which is ultimately what happens in the gym, right?

I would say seeing what I can achieve in the gym with my body would be a bigger contributor to my confidence than what I look like.

The effort > the result.

My advice, don’t rely on your muscle mass for confidence.

Rely on your ability to back yourself over and over and over again, regardless of failure.

This is what makes you confident and resilient.

Which is how I look at working out.

Process driven, not outcome driven.
