The Worst Display Of Personal Training I Have Ever Seen & How To Choose A Good One

Last Friday I saw the worst display of face to face personal training in my life.

A man was training an elderly man.

The clients form was horrendous with a capital 'H' (the client is not at fault, the trainer is).

The personal trainer wasn't even looking at his client, let alone cueing the right technique.

He was talking to another personal trainer while his client was about to pop his shoulder out of the socket on the cable machine!

He had the courage to talk over the client and laugh hysterically out loud whilst in the conversation.

This elderly man was over 60 years old and was probably paying whatever money he has banked up for retirement to this bloody PT.

I don't care if this elderly man is rich or poor, not one dollar should be spent on this fool.

Man, this personal trainer should be paying the client for this abominable display of personal training.

Complete embarrassment.

If I was standing within 5 metres of that guy and someone asked me if I was a personal trainer, I would've denied it.

And I love my job, that's saying something.

As a face to face personal trainer and an online coach, one of the biggest obstacles I face is getting you (the potential client) to trust me (the coach) that I can get the job done.

Let me tell you what to look for when you're shopping around for a trainer:

- Results (client before and afters)

- Service (what does he provide you as a client)

- The 'personal' in personal training (likability and empathy, you need to get along)

- Check-in (progress tracking and answers to your questions)

- Continual learning (always furthering their knowledge and studies)

- Passion (someone who is passionate will care deeply about what they do and the quality they provide it with)
