Get Your Head Out Of Your Ass

Not sure if it’s just the Gold Coast and Sydney (or everywhere I go) but commercial gyms need some serious help.

Serious, serious help.

It’s not just the poor form of 98% people working out but the poor attitude.

So much hate.

So much staring and looking down on others in jealousy.

I get it everywhere I go.

I’m going to blow my own trumpet for a while but read the whole email and it’ll make sense... I’m not a narcissistic asshole.

I am very strong for my size.

I can deadlift 225kg, squat 170kg, bench press 155kg and overhead press 95kg.

That’s quite impressive for my body weight of 86-88kg, if I do say myself.

So last night I did my last set of dumbbell chest press with 50kg dumbbells in each hand for 12 reps, drop them down to stand up with at least 3 older dudes condescending looking at me like "pffffft".

I don’t care, I move on.

I move to the chest press machine, put 3 x 20kg plates and punch them out for 12 reps, set after set.

More condescending looks flood my peripheral vision.

I’m sick of it. It’s absolute sh*t.

Get your head out of your ass and be be happy for someone else other than yourself.

I’ve trained for 11 years, 6-7 days per week. That adds up.

It’s called hard work mate, you should try it.

Oh and a word called consistency which is spelt "YOU’VE NEVER DONE IT IN YOUR LIFE AND THATS WHY YOU GET NO RESULTS".

There is no culture of edification or support.

Though we are all strangers in a gym with potentially nothing in common, there’s one thing that binds us.

We’re all trying to become better.

You don’t know someone’s journey, flag the condescending looks and try a smile.

Instead of snickering behind someone’s back, go and talk to them and encourage them and say how "impressive" that was.

Lucky I'm strong minded person but imagine if a girl that just recovered from anorexia was receiving these looks after her first day at the gym that took her 3 weeks to build up to.

This needs to stop.

Unfortunately I can't help these people, only a shrink or the harsh truths of life will be able to help them.
