What Is Saving Me From COVID-19
I won't stop sending positive messages out to everyone who reads these emails.
COVID-19 is real, it's impact is spreading but I refuse to be negative.
I know what it's like to feel down and out.
When Moorhouse (the boyband I used to sing in) broke up, I felt like I had no purpose.
I wanted to be a singer and now the band I was in was all over.
What was I going to be now?
I had a midlife crisis at 20 years old FFS 😂
I spent a whole day crying on the floor questioning my role on earth.
I know it sounds extreme but I had just moved to Auckland for the exact purpose of pursuing music and it was now all over.
No family.
Not much money.
And to top it all off I had extreme career anxiety, I was a mess.
I spent days wondering about what I would do with my life.
Unemployed at the time, I had a little of some things and a whole lot of one thing... TIME.
I turned to a book called The Power Of Positive Thinking by Norman Peale
This book gave me the confidence to commit my life to helping people.
It gave me the awareness to always choose positivity.
Even when you've lost your mum to cancer, have no family around and don't know what to do with your future.
I was reading about 4 hours a day and finished that book pretty bloody quick.
At first I thought it was cheesy rah rah rah blah blah bullshit but it totally revolutionised my world.
I know my problems don't compare to a worldwide crisis but no matter what problem we face, happiness and positivity is always a choice we have the ability to choose.
Here is a taste of a few quotes that helped me in a truly pivotal time in my life:
"Empty pockets never held anyone back. Only empty heads and empty hearts can do that."
"Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself as succeeding. Hold this picture tenaciously. Never permit it to fade. Your mind will seek to develop the picture... Do not build up obstacles in your imagination."
"Our happiness depends on the habit of mind we cultivate."
"The way to happiness: Keep your heart free from hate, your mind from worry. Live simply, expect little, give much. Scatter sunshine, forget self, think of others. Try this for a week and you will be surprised."
"Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy."
"The trouble with most of us is that we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism."
"When you get up in the morning, you have two choices - either to be happy or to be unhappy. Just choose to be happy."
"It's always too soon to quit!"
"Stand up to an obstacle. Just stand up to it, that's all, and don't give way under it, and it will finally break. You will break it. Something has to break, and it won't be you, it will be the obstacle."
"When the old fears, hates, and worries that have haunted you for so long try to edge back in, they will in effect find a sign on the door of your mind reading "occupied."
My brother lost thousands of dollars and had to cut his honeymoon short.
My clients businesses are losing A LOT of money.
Cafes, restaurants, bars and gyms are shutting down worldwide limiting us to the four walls of our house.
Supermarkets are being left bare.
Elderly are scared to see another human being.
Our family members may even be infected by the virus.
It' so easy to be negative and bitch about how everything sucks.
But when we get up in the morning, we have two choices. Happiness or unhappiness.
Depending on what we choose will dictate how the rest of our day goes, which dictates our weeks, months and years ahead.
It all starts with the moment we decide to choose happiness.
Happiness sees solutions, possibilities and hope.
Three things we need to cling to at this time.
Not just for ourself but for everyone facing the hardship we're ALL facing.
