Motivation Monday: 3 Certain Ways To Turn Your Negative Thoughts Into Positive Ones 🧠

According to Dr. Fred Luskin of Stanford University, we have approximately 60,000 thoughts per day.

Of those thousands of thoughts, 80% were negative, and 95% were exactly the same repetitive thoughts as the day before.

To give you a scale of how many 60,000 thoughts actually is, there is 60,000 seconds in 16 hours and 40mins.

If we add an 8 hour sleep in to that 16 hours and 40mins to our 24 hour day, we're pretty much having a thought every second πŸ˜…

So I want to give you 3 tips on how to manage your thoughts as well as you can πŸ‘‡

1. Positive Positioning

This is when you focus on positioning a situation, or scenario, in a positive light as opposed to focusing on the negative.

Here's an example:

What to do: "I will get to 80kg bodyweight from 100kg in a healthy and sustainable way through diet, lifestyle and exercise by the end of the year."

What not to do: "I will stop being a fat 100kg person who always fails on diets and never sticks to workout routines and get to 80kg by the end of the year."

The same goal but said differently.

This completely eliminates the negative aspect of your situation and positions you to focus on the positive things that will happen and are going to happen.

This way your thoughts are much more focused on the good things that will happen in your life (solution focused), and not the bad things (problem focused).

2. Positive Predictions

These are also commonly known as 'Affirmations' but to be honest with you, I find that term cheesy and unattractive. A positive prediction is where you predict what will happen in your future and thank yourself for it. It's a compliment you give yourself for a future action.

An example of a Positive Prediction: "Great job Brock on the result you got with your Built By Brock team member." - I would say this to myself.

The great thing about this is you can say these to other people as well.

An example of a Positive Prediction for another: "Ben, you're doing so well lately. I believe you're going to win your fight next week."

The more you give to others, the more you will get in return. There is no scarcity in positivity!

3. Daily Gratitude Practice

This is something I have practiced since I was 14 years old and still stand by it.

I call it the 'Gratitude List'.

It has brought me things that I have dreamed of only because I have been grateful from a young age and have continued to develop my daily gratitude practice. To simple things like renting a one bedroom apartment with a water view to the dream career I work today.

I do it every morning.

I have broken it down in to 4 sections and it goes like this:

1. Gratitude List

This is where I name family members, friends and the basic essentials I have to survive (breath in my lungs, food on my plate, thoughts in my brain, a fully abled body etc).

E.g. I'm grateful for my father and my two brothers...

2. Future self declaration

I declare who I want to be and the person I want to develop into.

E.g. I am generous. I am selfless. I work hard and work smart...

3. Ask and you shall receive

I declare what I want to achieve and use the power of positive predictions to announce what I have achieved (but am, in reality, still to achieve).

E.g. I earn 'x' amount of dollars per month and have unique ideas to help provide for my clients and continually improve my service for them.

4. Wise words

I close my gratitude practice with quotes and wise words that inspire me and help me become a better person. I have a list of about 20 quotes that I read that is always getting curated.

E.g.β€œLazy hands make for poverty but diligent hands bring wealth.” Proverbs 10:4

These 3 tips contain the power to turn your life around, like they have mine.

Don't let these words fall on deaf ears. Absorb them and apply them.

One thing I must say to close this email off is, if you do want to transform your body and change your life, there's only so much gratitude and predictions can do for you. You still have to put in the work.
