Facts Friday: Why You Don't Need To Worry About Getting Injured In The Gym
According to Dr. Fred Luskin of Stanford University, we have approximately 60,000 thoughts per day.
Of those thousands of thoughts, 80% were negative, and 95% were exactly the same repetitive thoughts as the day before.
To give you a scale of how many 60,000 thoughts actually is, there is 60,000 seconds in 16 hours and 40mins.
If we add an 8 hour sleep in to that 16 hours and 40mins to our 24 hour day, we're pretty much having a thought every second 😅
So I want to give you 3 tips on how to manage your thoughts as well as you can 👇
Welcome to Facts Friday.
Where I provide you the fitness facts to steer you away from the misinformation of the fitness industry and align you with the truth.
Today, I want to open your eyes to the real rates of injury you may run into from working out. These are put into order of lowest to highest rates of injury:
Bodybuilding is calculated to be 0.24 injuries per 1000 hours.
Powerlifting is 1.0–1.1 injuries per 1000 hours.
Olympic lifting was calculated at 2.4-3.3 injuries per 1000 hours of training.
Strongman is 4.5–6.1 injuries per 1000 hours.
Highland Games a rather higher rate of 7.5 injuries per 1000 hours.
Compared to lifting-oriented sports, sporting team sports and contact sports (such as soccer, rugby, and cricket) had a substantially higher injury rate of 15–81 injuries per 1000 hours.
To give you a bit of perspective, 1000 hours is 41 days and 16 hours.
If you train five days per week at 60mins per session, this is almost 4 years per injury (and this is only an average).
So if you're worried about being injured in your training, there really is no need because the chance of injury is very low.
