Motivation Monday: How I Became Kelly Rowland's Personal Trainer

When I first began personal training, I was in a 24/7 gym on Queen Street in Auckland, New Zealand in 2015.

I still remember the first consultation where I was choking on my words stuttering to charge a client $69 per 60min session.

I was so afraid I asked him how much he wanted to pay!

I never thought I would train a person as famous as Kelly Rowland but here we are.

I was coaching her last week leading up to her performance for Sydney World Pride 2023.

I don't want to be a "celebrity trainer" but it is fun working with people that have a huge impact on the world, like I aspire to do.

Here's how I became her personal trainer...

In 2018, I auditioned for The Voice as a singer.

I was a singer in my past life and I made it through the live auditions and chose Kelly Rowland to be my coach.

She was the biggest artist on the panel and she had a similar story to mine because we both lost our mums and I thought we would have a special bond beyond the show.

I proceeded through the battles, one live show and then I got eliminated from the show.

It's safe to say I'm not the best singer but I gave it my all.

But when Kelly came back to Australia to coach on The Voice, she reached out to me to help her workout.

So we started training together in 2019 and have been training together ever since.

And it really is a result of backing myself and executing.

It started off like this...

I wanted to be a personal trainer, so I did my studies and applied at a gym.

I wanted to be an online personal trainer to supplement my face to face personal training income, so I posted everyday to help people online and created a website.

I wanted to get more eyes on my brand and challenge myself as a singer, so I auditioned for The Voice and met Kelly Rowland.

I wanted to coach people who have a big impact on the world, so I deliver world class results in Team Brock Ashby.

If you have goals, back it up with action or else they are only dreams.
