Friday Facts: The Role Of Social Media In Fitness
Hey mate,
This topic is close to my heart as a personal trainer who has gone from walking the gym floor helping members to coaching thousands of clients globally from a laptop and a mobile phone.
I am one of the fitness guys posting on social media doing my best to post positive and uplifting content to the world but the downfall of comparison to others is a strong force that most social media consumers fall unto.
Check the study below 👇
Not only are comparing ourselves to peoples highlight reels of their life, we are also being misled by performance enhancing drugs, dissemination of misinformation and manipulation.
It's a challenging battle to overcome but we definitely aren't winning with body dissatisfaction, mental health illness and body dysmorphia on the rise.
There are simple fixes and things we can try to do such as:
- limit screen time
- unfollow fitness influencers who make us feel worse than they do better
- spend the time we would spend scrolling doing other things such as hobbies, seeing friends, working, meditating, journaling etc
But another huge consideration we need to acknowledge is to fight back with education.
The more you know, the more you grow.
I have lived by that and that has allowed me to progress in my coaching career, personal development and financial life.
I read self development books to develop my leadership, integrity, character, negotiation skills, parenting skills and many more.
I take online fitness courses to grow in program design, nutrition, people skills, anatomy and biomechanics.
I read financial books to help secure my families future.
And as a result, when I hear misinformation, my ears prick up.
And your ears will do the same if you join my Team Brock Ashby programs and get access to over 6 hours of educational content to grow your fitness knowledge with.
With this fitness knowledge, you can navigate social media with the knowledge of a well-seasoned PT and dispel and B.S. that pops onto your social media feed.
