Facts Friday: Fast Fat Loss Vs. Slow Fat Loss... What Is Best?

Team Brock Ashby Bodyquarters Update:

The finishing touches are coming together. Last night, Jamal and I put up the mirrors and next week we should have the logos done.

I will also put 1-2 more machines in the space but for now, I think it is safe to say we are 90% there.

Facts Friday: Fast Weight Loss Is Better Than Slow Weight Loss

Back to the meat and potatoes of the e-mail.

A 2013 study analysed just under 300 women between the age of 50 - 75 years of age to determine the optimal rate of weight loss for the best long term weight management results.

There were three groups:

FAST
- with an average of 680g or more of weight loss per week, a mean average of 13.5kg weight loss in 6 months and had lost a total of 10.9kg over 18 months.

MODERATE
- with an average of 680g - 230g weight loss per week, a mean average of 8.9kg weight loss in 6 months had lost a total of 7.1kg over 18 months.

SLOW
- with an average of 230g or less weight loss per week, a mean average of 5.1kg weight loss in 6 months and had lost a total of 3.7kg over 18 months.

Without boring you with all the numbers of the study, this is what we ultimately found.

If you lose weight in a fast manner, it doesn't essentially mean you're going to regain it back faster. It may actually encourage you to stick to it! This is because you most probably feel motivated with the results that you have achieved early on.

This is also not to say that you cannot do the 'slow and steady' approach. However, the slow amount of progress may frustrate you and get you down in the dumps 9which could lead you back to regaining some, or all, of it back.

What really matters is what works for you!

If you like seeing fast progress, you can afford to go aggressive on the calorie deficit.

If that is too restrictive for you, potentially try a more moderate approach to give you some balance.

This is why in the Built By Brock 8 Week Challenge (which starts on August 7th), I give you different options for your goal. I have the aggressive, moderate or slow calorie deficit option for fat loss. I have the hardgainer, slow and steady approach and super conservative approach for the muscle building
calorie surplus too.
