The Most Popular Job That Children Want Will Shock You

In 2019, there was a survey that was completed to see what jobs kids aspired to have when they grew up.

The Harris Poll survey asked 3,000 kids ages 8-12 across three different countries (USA, UK and China) to choose from five professions to answer which they wanted to be when they grew up:

  1. Astronaut

  2. Musician

  3. Professional athlete

  4. Teacher

  5. Vlogger/YouTuber

Though the top choice among kids in the US and the UK was vlogger/YouTuber, 56% of kids in China said they wanted to be an astronaut.

There are plenty of things that I have to say about this but the main extrapolation that I have for US and UK children is that the majority of the kids growing up just want to be famous.

But my question for them is, what do you want to be famous for?

One of the best quotes that floats around in my cranium is to "try to do something, not to be someone."

There is a distinct difference.

Being good at something leads to being someone but trying to be someone does not lead to you being good at something.

We could say the same about trying to get stronger in the gym. Getting stronger in the gym leads to bigger muscles but trying to train for bigger muscles does not lead to you being stronger.

Many of people's sole purpose to their fitness journey is to look better, which is a great goal. Keep in mind however, that there will be one day where you cannot look better and need to seek other goals like getting stronger, faster, fitter or more knowledgeable.

Just like striving for fame doesn't lead to being someone, striving for the best-looking physique you have ever had does not lead to ultimate happiness and the 'clocking' of the fitness game.

You must also be working on other things which are called, performance based goals. These keep you going when your aesthetic goals no longer give you the satisfaction they used to.

And if you need help with those, hit the button below and I can help you develop your fitness journey into something that goes beyond just how you look (though I know how important that is)!
