Facts Friday: You're Not Eating Enough Protein & How To Change It

Facts Friday: You're Not Eating Enough Protein

Hey mate,

Eating high amounts of protein has a bad reputation, which sucks because it encourages muscle retention, less frailty in older years and larger potential to build muscle when working out.

You might think it's something only Arnold Schwarzenegger does or if you eat a high protein diet, it's bad for your kidneys but it's not.

Here's a study to prove it and a summary below explaining what happened when twelve men ate 3-4x the recommended dietary protein intake (which is 0.8g/kg of protein per day).

So now that's out of the way and you're not scared of eating a high protein diet and your kidneys exploding, here's the three most important things to think about when you're consuming protein.

  1. Total daily protein amount.

The biggest thing you need to focus on is the amount of protein you eat per day. As long as that is in the 'high' amount you are good, which happens to be 1.5 - 2.5g/kg per day.

  2. Protein distribution throughout the day.

Once you have hit your target, the next most important thing is distributing it evenly throughout the day. If you really want to be on point, hitting 0.4g/kg of protein per meal is the best way to do it.

  3. Timing of protein relative to training.

If you have passed the two points above, you are pretty much in the clear but the last box to tick is to ensure you have a serving of protein before and after training,

If you want more info on how to master your nutrition for world class results, in any Team Brock Ashby program you get educational videos explaining how important protein is but also the importance of calories and flexible dieting (and a ton more on injury prevention, exercise form and more).

Here's a sneak peek of a video I made called Nutritional Priorities which outlines what is important if you want to lose weight, build muscle or maintain weight.

This is just a taste of what I'm passionate about.

Hope this inspires you to take action and take the plunge on a Team Brock Ashby program!
